This work presents a CFD simulation of hydrodynamic processes in a 15 m³ fermenter for citric acid synthesis by Aspergillus niger. Using the Frozen Rotor approach in ANSYS CFX, a two-phase liquid-gas system was modelled with two impellers: a Rushton turbine and a 45° pitched blade impeller. The velocity field, pressure distribution, shear strain rate and air volume fraction were analysed. The results indicate effective mixing throughout the vessel volume with acceptable shear stress levels for microbial cells.
